Olympic champion Mo Farah vows to get Hampden roaring as he heads north for Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix
Olympic star, Mo Farah has told how he can’t wait to come to Glasgow this summer. The 5,000m and 10,000m champ will run at the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix at Hampden in July – his only confirmed track meet this season. The event will also feature Olympic long jump ace Greg Rutherford and 400m world champion Christine Ohuruogu. The meet on July 11 and 12 is part of the International Association of Athletics Federation’s Diamond League, which attracts the world’s best. It will be a superb curtain-raiser for the Commonwealth Games which start in the city just two weeks later.
Mo said: “Glasgow will be one of my first track appearances in front of a home crowd in 2014. Nothing in the world can compare to a British crowd. I will be doing everything I can to get the Hampden support going.”

River Clyde Boat Race – Saturday 24th May

Members of Glasgow and Edinburgh’s University boat clubs will battle it out in an annual race on the River Clyde on Saturday, May 24. Running since 1877, the event is the third oldest boat race in the world behind the famous Oxbridge contest and Harvard-Yale Regatta in America. The 2.6km race route runs from Broomielaw Quay to the Riverside Museum. Despite being nearly 140 years old, rivalry around the race has not subsided and each year sees two of the country’s leading sporting university’s vying to take home the prize.  There will be seven races in total at the free-to-watch event.
